Rod, following a long career in the Water Industry, now devotes much of his time to his watercolour, acrylic and mixed media painting. Much of his inspiration comes from the changing moods of nature, which he attempts to catch in his landscapes and seascapes, and from the texture and ‘hidden’ shapes found in natural forms such as tree bark and rocks. He enjoys experimenting with a variety of techniques and bases to add texture and interest to finished paintings. He exhibits his paintings at local art exhibitions and won the ‘2003 Patchings Award’, in the Leisure Painter category, in the annual exhibition at the Patchings Art Centre, Nottingham, organised by ‘The Artist’ and ‘Leisure Painter’ magazines . He, together with his wife, Barbara, organises and exhibits in exhibitions to support various charities. (Charities supported to date – ‘Hope 10/10’ supporting AIDS related projects in Africa, ‘ECCE HOMO’ supporting children’s homes and poverty action in Romania, ‘Operation Christmas Child’ taking gift laden decorated shoe boxes to underprivileged children around the world, Soul Action - a combination of Tear Fund and Soul Survivor - encouraging young people to get involved in charitable work in developing countries around the world.).
